Master Architects: These birds are best known for their complex, retort-shaped hanging nests, which are meticulously woven from long strips of grass, palm leaves, and paddy leaves.
Breeding Behavior: During the breeding season, the male (seen in your photo with his bright yellow breeding plumage) takes on the role of the primary nest builder. He constructs the nest to attract a female. If the female likes the nest, she will help complete it.
Colonial Nesters: They are highly social and often nest in colonies, with multiple nests hanging from the same tree—often a palm or acacia tree located near water or overhanging a water body to protect their young from predators like snakes.
Appearance: Outside of the breeding season, males look very similar to females and non-breeding birds, appearing duller with a brownish, sparrow-like plumage.
