Snowy Egret (Egretta thula) #54062
Owned by liyanaga
Description
Appearance: They are small, elegant white herons. They are easily identified by their solid black bills, black legs, and distinctive bright yellow feet (often described as "golden slippers"). During the breeding season, they develop beautiful, delicate lacy plumes on their heads, necks, and backs.
Habitat: You can typically find them in wetlands, marshes, ponds, and along coastlines. They prefer shallow waters where they can wade and hunt for prey.
Behavior: They are active hunters. They often use their bright yellow feet to stir up the mud in shallow water, flushing out small fish, crustaceans, and insects, which they then quickly snatch with their sharp, pointed bills.
Range: They are found throughout much of North and South America.
