White-throated Kingfisher #50705
Owned by PixelGalaxyArt
Description
Appearance: It is a medium-sized kingfisher with a striking combination of colors: a bright, deep blue back, wings, and tail; a rich chocolate-brown head, neck, and underparts; and a distinctive white patch on its throat. It also has a long, heavy, bright red bill.
Habitat: They are very adaptable and are found in a wide range of habitats, including forests, mangroves, gardens, and agricultural areas like paddy fields. You can often see them perched on wires, poles, or tree branches, especially near water.
Diet: Despite being a kingfisher, they are not strictly reliant on fish. They are generalist hunters that feed on a variety of prey, including insects, small lizards, frogs, earthworms, and occasionally small rodents or other small birds.
Behavior: They are known for their territorial behavior and their loud, laughing call, which they often announce from their perches. They are quite common throughout Sri Lanka and are frequently spotted in both rural and urban areas.
