Appearance: It is easily identifiable by its contrasting plumage, featuring a white head and chest that stand out against its rich, chestnut-brown body and wings.
Common Name: In Sri Lanka, it is commonly known as the "Brahmini Ukusa" (බ්රාහ්මණ උකුස්සා).
Habitat: These kites are typically found near water bodies, including rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and coastal areas, where they can easily scout for food.
Diet: They are opportunistic feeders, often scavenging for dead fish, crustaceans, and other small prey. They are also known to occasionally hunt live prey or steal food from other birds.
Behavior: They are often seen soaring gracefully in search of food or perched prominently on high vantage points like dead trees, as seen in the image, to monitor their surroundings.
