Description
Appearance: This is a male, easily identified by its glossy black upperparts, head, and throat, which contrast sharply with its white underparts and white wing patches.
Behavior: They are known for being very active and inquisitive birds, often seen hopping along the ground with their long tails held upwards.
Song: They are famous for their beautiful and melodious songs, which they often sing from a prominent perch, especially early in the morning.
Habitat: They are very common in residential gardens, cultivated lands, and secondary forests across many parts of South and Southeast Asia, including here in Sri Lanka.
Diet: They are insectivores and typically forage for insects, spiders, and other small invertebrates on the ground.
